A major trade just went down in the NHL! Goaltender Jacob Markstrom is now a member of the New Jersey Devils.
In return, the Devils sent the defenseman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first round pick.
Here are the details:
"Markstrom to the Devils. In return Calgary gets 23 year old Dman Kevin Bahl and a 1st round pick in 2025"
"Full trade: #NJDevils acquire Jacob Markstrom at 31.25% salary retained ($4.125M cap hit) for Kevin Bahl and a Top 10 Protected 1st round pick in 2025"
Both the Calgary Flames and the New Jersey Devils released official statements:
From the Flames:
"Today's trade demonstrates our focus on the infusion of young talented players into our roster as well as acquiring important draft capital, while maintaining our commitment as a playoff competitive team," said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy. "We thank Jacob for his professionalism and understanding of our decision to make this trade now and at this stage in his career."
"For quite some time, we had identified Kevin Bahl as a priority player. He is a strong defender with size who plays an assertive game with tremendous presence. While his 6'6", 230-lb. frame is an imposing asset, he uses his body intelligently, has good mobility and makes smart puck decisions. Kevin fits our identity, and we are excited to acquire him now as he can continue to grow with our group."
From the Devils:
"The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Kevin Bahl and New Jersey's first-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft (top-10 protected). Calgary will be retaining 31.25% of Markstrom's remaining contract, which after this season, has two years left on a six-year, $36,000,000 ($6,000,000 average annual value) deal originally signed with the Flames on October 9, 2020. The cap hit for those remaining two years will be $4,125,000. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald."
Stay tuned as a lot of action is expected in the next days!
