For a few years now, most junior leagues have been hosting teddy bear toss nights, where fans are invited to throw stuffed animals on the ice after the first goal of the game. Then, the team donates all the toys to children in need ahead of the holidays
Brandon Maki, the team's communications specialist commented:
Last night, the Ottawa 67's hosted the Barrie Colts and after the first goal of the game, fans happily threw their stuffed animals on the ice.
Unfortunately, the event took a dark turn when a massive scrum emerged on the ice after the Colts scored a goal.
As stuffed animals were falling on the ice, players went at each other and referees tried to intervene.
What is the chaotic scene in the video below:
It's quite unusual to see this happen. Players are often excited to see teddy bears raining down on the ice, but last night, they seemed to have something else in mind.
Many games hosted over the weekend held that kind of event, and it all went peacefully, as you can see in the following video:
Such events are for a great cause and that's what should be highlighted.
Fans are wondering if this will ever happen in the NHL. But with tens of thousands of people attending every game, it could be much more chaotic than in junior leagues or the AHL.
Do you think NHL teams will start hosting teddy bear toss games?
