One great tradition around the holidays in hockey is the teddy bear toss, in which fans bring teddy bears to the game to toss onto the ice that will ultimately be given away to Children's hospitals and charities.
Unfortunately, potential top draft pick Michael Misa has come under fire after shooting one of the bears off the ice during the Saginaw Spirit's last game, with many believing that a suspension was the right play.
Now, the Ontario Hockey League has made it official, handing down a one-game suspension to the 17-year-old star, citing a game misconduct for shooting an object off the ice.
On the surface, this isn't a good look for an OHL star, but given that it was a soft item there was no one in danger and it wasn't the biggest deal, with the suspension likely to not effect his draft stock as he has never had a behavioral issue on or off the ice.
In 25 games this season, Misa has tallied 25 goals and 49 points, putting him on pace for a career-high with the Saginaw Spirit, and even though he was omitted from Team Canada's selection for the World Juniors, he remains one of the league's biggest stars.
From the moment he stepped foot on the ice in the OHL, Misa has been above a point-per-game the entire way, and if his play continues this way, he'll be under genuine consideration for the No. 1 overall pick next season.
Ultimately, the suspension was the right call from the league, as Misa did make an illegal move, and while he deserves to serve a one-game suspension, this shouldn't affect him too much moving forward.
