It would appear that GM Don Sweeney of the Boston Bruins has a bone to pick with "Spittin' Chiclets" host Paul Bissonnette over the latter's reporting on some goalie Jeremy Swayman rumors.
With Swayman still unsigned as a restricted free agent, the fans are on edge after training camp began on September 18th. Sweeney spoke to the situation to deny claims on the podcast he hasn't been returning Swayman's phone calls. He's miffed such a baseless rumor has been created and resulted in disgruntlement from the fans, but is still confident a contract will be completed in due course.
After Sweeney's comments went viral, Paul Bissonnette took to X to blame the rumor on his co-host Ryan Whitney, the retired NHL player and analyst doubling down on the podcast's assertion.
Swayman finished off his $3.475 million deal last year and is now absent from training camp, but Sweeney is optimistic a deal will be had soon.
Restricted free agents can be signed as late as December 1 to remain eligible to play during the 2024-25 NHL season, but a fair majority of Bruins fans are hoping for a resolution far sooner rather than later.
Jeremy Swayman went 25-10-8 last season, posting a 2.53 GAA and .916 SV%, and then was 6-6 in the playoffs, combining for a 2.15 GAA and .933 SV%.
