The Washington Capitals made several additions to the team this summer, and now we know why, as they have lost a top veteran for the year.

It has been over five years since TJ Oshie played more than 60 games in a season for the Washington Capitals, and unfortunately, 2024/25 won't be the year that fact changes, as he is reportedly once more heading back to LTIR.

This news comes after the team acquired Andrew Mangiapane, Taylor Raddysh and Pierre-Luc Dubois this off-season, as the team seemingly knew they would need to bolster their roster around the ageing Alex Ovechkin and known menace Tom Wilson on the top line. After another horror run with injury, the veteran star has now given a statement about his injury and his future in the NHL.

The last season was challenging for me, my family and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup. I have used the off-season to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. I will continue to support and help my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all our fans support during this time.

It's clear that the 37-year old Oshie is determined to get back onto the ice at some point in his career, and with the Capitals seemingly pushing for one last Stanley Cup run behind Ovechkin, he wants to give it one more go. Unfortunately, unless something drastic changes, 2024/25 won't be the year to see that happen, so we will continue to update the story as Oshie looks to get healthy and get back on the ice as his NHL career winds down.
