Through three games at the 2025 World Juniors tournament in Ottawa, Team Slovakia is 1-2-0 and sits in third place in Group B, although they still have a chance to compete for a medal against tough competition in a loaded group with the likes of Sweden and Czechia.
Now however, they've suffered a major loss, as they have announced that 18-year-old center Miroslav Satan Jr., the son of NHL icon Miroslav Satan will miss the rest of the tournament with an injury.
That injury is a result of taking a hit from behind in the team's latest game, and at 6-foot-7, he's certainly got the size of a player who will be missed by the team moving forward.
Through those three games, Satan Jr. has put up no points and has struggled to make much of an impact, with the 2024 seventh-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals expected to produce at a much higher level.
Still, a player with the size and physicality of Satan Jr. is a very intriguing prospect, and while he's tallied just three points in 19 USHL games this season, there's still plenty of time for him to develop into a solid professional.
It's unclear at this point whether or not Miroslav will miss a lengthy time beyond this tournament or whether it's a simple injury that will take a few weeks to recover from, but for now, this is a tough break for Team Slovakia who have shown plenty of potential despite their 1-2-0 record in the tournament thus far.
