Hockey Night in Canada Panel Put Macklin Celebrini in an Uncomfortable Position on Live TV
The Hockey Night in Canada panel put Macklin Celebrini in an uncomfortable position during an interview on live TV.
After a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames, an interview with Macklin Celebrini took a strange turn when a Sportsnet reporter shared an unexpected detail about the story of how his parents met, to the player's surprise.
Sportsnet's Scott Oake decided to share how Celebrini's parents met, revealing that it wasn't on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus, where they were both star soccer players. Instead, Oake informed Celebrini that his parents had met at a well-known Vancouver bar called The Roxy. The revelation left the young player visibly uncomfortable.
Oake: Being from Vancouver, I'm sure you've heard of The Roxy, right? So your parents, both star soccer players at UBC, you would logically think that they met on the campus of UBC, right? But I should tell you this: they met at The Roxy. Did you know that?
Celebrini: "I did not know that, I had no idea. I knew they met at some sort of bar but I didn't know it was The Roxy."
Check out the interview in the video below:
For most people, the fact that two adults met at a bar isn't unusual at all. But the timing and tone of the revelation seemed to catch Celebrini off guard, making the moment especially awkward.
Many fans are wondering why Scott Oake chose to bring this up during a post-game interview.
Maybe he thought it would add a bit of humor, but from the viewers' point of view, it was more awkward than anything else.
While it did get people talking, it probably wasn't the kind of headline Celebrini or his family wanted to see.
However, with the way he's playing, he'll need to get used to such things in his career.
