It seems like every year there are more and more high-end talents during each draft year. This upcoming year, it will be James Hagens, Matthew Schaefer, Porter Martone, and Michael Misa, who will have a case for a selection at 1st overall. Next year, Swedish forward Ivar Stenberg will be fighting to be drafted 2nd overall, behind the expected 2026 1st overall pick Gavin McKenna, who is widely viewed as a generational talent.
Recently, Elite Prospects scout Cam Robinson shared exciting news about Ivar Stenberg and how he is very likely to be heading to Boston University next year to play hockey.
Boston University has made it a habit to recruit high-end Swedish talents to their team with Vancouver Canucks first-round pick Tom Willander being on their blue line, the dynamic and undersized Alexander Zetterberg on the forward lines, and potential 2025 first-round pick Sascha Boumedienne also being on the team.
Stenberg would likely be the most highly sought-out prospect at BU since 2024 1st overall pick Macklin Celebrini and ideally Stenberg will head down the same development route as Celebrini playing for one season in the NCAA and heading directly to the NHL after being drafted.
Next year will be a big year for the NCAA as many foreign and CHL talents will jump over and we could see the most competitive NCAA season in decades. Teams like BU will be looking to add as many highly-talented players as possible and hopefully win a national championship.
