The Montreal Canadiens have been making moves to improve their roster and now insider Pierre LeBrun has shared when the Canadiens will be making their next trade.

Currently, the Montreal Canadiens are at a crossroads with aging talents who could be shipped off for assets at the trade deadline and young players who may not be quite ready for the NHL. One of their aging talents is David Savard, a veteran defenseman who brings Stanley Cup pedigree, and seems to have hit the trade market per insider Pierre LeBrun.

"There are no discussions between Canadiens management and Savard's representatives for a potential one-year contract extension, none of that.

So, it seems like this is his last year in Montreal." -Pierre LeBrun

LeBrun then went on to add how the Canadiens will be looking to bring up two top young prospects, David Reinbacher and Logan Mailloux.

"We know what the Canadiens' defensive group should look like shortly.

We'll see players like David Reinbacher and Logan Mailloux secure full-time roles in Montreal.

They're clearing some space here, but they're also bringing in experience with Alexandre Carrier, which could help these players find their way." -Pierre LeBrun

Reinbacher, the 5th overall pick in 2023, has struggled with injuries this year not playing in a single AHL game with the Laval Rocket. This was the play that knocked him out for 5-6 months.

Mailloux on the other hand, the 31st overall pick in 2021, has been having an offensively dominant year in the AHL. Through 25 AHL games, Mailloux has five goals and 15 points while also adding an additional goal and three points in the NHL through five games.

While neither Mailloux nor Reinbacher could be slotted to replace Savard right now, one will likely take his spot at the start of next season.
