Tonight Sidney Crosby finally broke Mario Lemieux's franchise record for all-time assists and after doing so Crosby shared a special moment with the Penguins fans.

Sidney Crosby will go down as one of the best players in the history of the NHL and likely the best Pittsburgh Penguin of all time.

Tonight Crosby once again added to his legacy by passing Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux for the most assists in the history of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise.

After passing Lemieux the Pittsburgh Penguins fans were of course overjoyed for Crosby and knew how special of a moment they were witnessing.

During a stoppage in play the Penguins fans decided to show their appreciation for Crosby and gave him a standing ovation for several minutes.

Crosby usually stoic and quiet decided to lean into the moment crack a smile and acknowledge the crowd.

The goal would give the Penguins a 2-0 lead and while the moment was great to share with the fans eventually it was time to get back to work to close out the game.

The Penguins would tally another goal to begin the third period from fellow franchise icon Evgeni Malkin.

While the Islanders would make a late-game push the Penguins would end up taking home a 3-2 win.

A huge win for the Penguins as they have now gotten themselves back into a Stanley Cup Playoff spot despite a dreadful start to their season just a few short months ago.

Now with the record secured Crosby and the Penguins will turn their attention to the Detroit Red Wings as they continue to try and hold their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
