Spicer is a former member of the USNTDP, the top program developing NHL talent in the United States. He spent the last two seasons playing NCAA hockey with the University of Minnesota Duluth. Unfortunately, though, he just announced that he will not be returning to the team next season and will be taking an indefinite break from hockey altogether.
Spicer was a 4th round pick of the Bruins back in 2022. His first season of NCAA hockey was not particularly successful, but he showed a lot of signs of growth this season, putting up a very respectable total of nine points in 17 games, including 5 goals. Unfortunately, though, he fell behind in school, losing his eligibility to play for the second half of the season.
Oddly enough, Spicer was present at the Bruins development camp earlier this month where he appeared to be excited for his future with the team.
This just goes to show you that you never know what someone is going through, or what actions they might take to remedy their situation. Hopefully, Spicer is doing okay as he takes some time away from hockey.
