The New York Rangers had just finished sealing the details of a trade sending Jacob Trouba to the Red Wings until he stepped in and shut down the whole thing.

Trouba didn't do anything that went against league policy, as he handed in his no-trade list with Detroit on it, but fans, particularly in Detroit, were shocked to hear this considering Trouba is from Michigan, and many thought he would want to play back home, which clearly isn't the case.

It was crazy to learn that Trouba, a Michigan native, added DET to his no-trade list when he heard that's where #NYR wanted to send him.

All legal, too, as he did it before he submitted it to NYR.

Reports getting out changed everything for NYR.

What an ugly situation.

Trouba had what many would describe as an okay year for the Rangers, scoring only 3 goals and 19 points, with a slightly subpar +/- rating of -4, very average numbers to say the least. Clearly, the Rangers had higher expectations of their captain, which could explain why they have been trying to move him recently.

Sunday @NYCNeil discussed the difficult situation w/#NYR & Trouba & how it can be difficult for a GM to navigate.

Despite a slightly off year, many teams would still love having Trouba's leadership and experience on their team to serve as a mentor to some of the younger guys, but unfortunately, it definitely won't ever seem to be his hometown WIngs.
