According to a new rumor, the Buffalo Sabres are exploring trade options already and they are looking to make a major change after their slow start to the season.

The Sabres are currently dead last in their division despite the fact that they have played more games than anyone else in the entire league, aside from the New Jersey Devils, who have also played four games. They have just two points thanks to their win against a diminished Florida Panthers squad last night.

Despite the win though, alarms are already sounding for the Sabres front office. The team got off to an ice cold start, mustering just three goals through their first three games of the season as they handily lost both NHL global series games against the New Jersey Devils. Now, they could be looking into trade possibilities. According to Eklund of Hockeybuzz.com, the team is looking for a grittier forward that can go to the net front and score the dirty goals. As the team is currently constructed, they do not have enough of those types of players. This is how Eklund described the situation.

Per a source..." The team is playing a completely parameter game, with no one willing to go to the net and scored the goals... Currently, there are made up of a lot of players who believe they can score pretty goals all the time. Does it make sense if they leverage one of their top 3D in an effort to get grittier."

Despite the fact that the Sabres have been a disaster for the past decade, their fans are still showing up. In fact, the fanbase has shown a lot of excitement this season as they look to be coming out of their perpetual rebuild, at least on paper.

With a core that includes players like Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, and Dylan Cousins it is no surprise that Sabres fans are excited. Furthermore, they have more young guys that are expected to take another step this season including Zach Benson, Jack Quinn, and Jiri Kulich. These guys have shown that they can be good if not great players in the NHL, but it is true that many of them tend to play more around the perimeter of the ice. Some of that will change as they get older, bigger, and stronger, but at the end of the day, they need to start winning games. Does that mean we will see a blockbuster trade early in the season? Stick around to find out.
