The 2024/25 NHL season is officially upon us, and while most teams are looking for their shot at the Stanley Cup, the Calgary Flames are one of a few teams that are instead heading into the campaign looking to continue their rebuild. With veterans like Nazem Kadri and Rasmus Andersson potentially available, they may be big sellers ahead of the trade deadline, and now speculation has emerged about the latter, who is becoming a huge trade chip ahead of the season.
According to Sportsnet's Ryan Dixon, there's one clear team leading the way too, with the veteran reporter predicting that the Dallas Stars would land Andersson to bolster their right side defense, which is considered one of the worst in the NHL, giving up prospect Mavrik Borque in the process. At 22-years of age, Borque is one of the most promising centre prospects in the entire NHL after tallying 26 goals and 77 points a year ago in 76 games for the Texas Stars of the AHL, and while they'd prefer not to trade him, the right side of the defense makes it a potential necessity.
On top of that, the Flames have other veterans like Andrei Kuzmenko who could be available ahead of the trade deadline, and with the two teams doing business last year on a Chris Tanev deal, it's safe to say that they know how to make it work, so keep a close eye on the Stars and Flames making a deal happen this season.
