While Mikko Rantanen stole the headlines, the Carolina Hurricanes acquired Taylor Hall on Friday too, who waived his no-trade clause to chase a Stanley Cup.

On a random Friday night in the middle of the season, Eric Tulsky and the Carolina Hurricanes swooped in and added two major stars in Taylor Hall and Mikko Rantanen, in what was one of the biggest trades we've seen in recent NHL memory.

There's been plenty of details released about what went into the trade, and now Pierre LeBrun has uncovered another layer in this intriguing story, revealing that Hall actually had to waive a NTC to make this deal happen, as Carolina were one of the 10 teams on his no-trade list.

And by the way, Carolina was one of the 10 teams on Hall's no-trade list, so he actually had to sign off on his no-trade clause to allow the trade to happen. That was a no-brainer for Hall, who goes from playing on the fourth line on last-place Chicago to having a chance to win a Stanley Cup in Carolina.

On paper, this was an absolute no-brainer from Hall, who goes from arguably the worst team in the NHL and their fourth line to having a chance to play alongside some elite-level talent as they chase a Stanley Cup.

It's unclear at this point what role Hall will play on his new team, but with 24 points in 46 games this season, he can clearly still contribute, and he will be a major upgrade in the Hurricanes bottom-six moving forward.

This trade was one of the most impressive we've seen in recent times, with every team getting positives out of it while plenty of detail went into every little move, and now, with Hall and Rantanen headed to Carolina, they represent a major threat in the Eastern Conference.
