The Vancouver Canucks reportedly turned down a trade offer from the New York Rangers earlier this season that would have sent Mika Zibanejad to Vancouver in exchange for J.T. Miller, according to Josh Yohe of The Athletic.
The Rangers' interest in J.T. Miller dates back to November, though the specifics of their initial offer were previously unclear.
The Canucks reportedly are considering trading both Miller and Elias Pettersson, amid reports of tension between the two star centers, although both players have denied there is an issue.
Rangers GM Chris Drury has been aggressively reshaping his roster since November, having already traded captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and forward Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.
Miller, who was selected 15th overall by the Rangers in the 2011 draft, played parts of five seasons in New York before being dealt to Tampa Bay and then Vancouver in 2019.
Now 31, Miller is entering the second year of a seven-year contract that will pay him $8 million per year and that also includes a full no-movement clause.
Coming off three consecutive seasons averaging 95 points, Miller recorded 29 points in as many games to start this campaign, which is great all things considered.
The pendulum has swung firmly the other way for Mika Zibanejad. With 91 points in 2022-2023 and 72 last campaign, he sits at just 24 points in 39 games this year.
The 31-year-old has a full no-movement clause and $8.5 million AAV through 2029-2030.
