Bryan Bickell was a fantastic player for both the Chicago Blackhawks and their AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs, and he is set to be honored by the latter.

The Chicago Blackhawks couldn't be more excited to see the great season their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, are going to have. The roster in Rockford is very talented, and even more talented players will join that roster once injuries start to heal. This could be a real benchmark season for the development of future Blackhawks, but the IceHogs are also taking some time to recognize some great history.

One way the IceHogs are celebrating their past is with a special ceremony to honor their team alumnus, Bryan Bickell. Bickell will go into the Ring of Honor of the IceHogs on February 15, 2025. His induction is one well-deserved acknowledgment for his service not only to the IceHogs but also to the Chicago Blackhawks during their Stanley Cup dynasty years. It promises to be a momentous occasion indeed for Bickell and also for his family and those fans who followed his brilliant career.

Arguably most remembered for his times with the Blackhawks, most notably during their postseason appearances, he has been known for scoring big goals during big moments, and that's what he did during the Blackhawks' championships. Though often overshadowed by names such as Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith, Bickell's timely goals and physical presence were important pieces of the Blackhawks' victories. His heroics during the playoffs helped make him a fan favorite; his influence can still be celebrated in Chicago to this very day.

Before making his name known within the NHL, Bickell played a significant role for the IceHogs of the AHL. In 227 games with Rockford, he had 115 points, through 56 goals, and 59 assists. It was during this time, too, with the IceHogs that he had been getting himself prepared for the pressure and intensity of the NHL. Certainly, his success in both leagues made him a beloved figure in the organization. The upcoming ceremony reflects not only the great esteem in which Rockford holds Bickell but also the respect he earned as a recognition of his on-ice and personable attributes.

Bryan Bickell was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis midway through the 2016-17 season and retired early because of it. During his time in the game, he was an inspiration both on and off the ice. His commitment to the community and fighting through personal adversity have made him a respected role model. The retirement of Bickell's number by the Rockford IceHogs salutes a player who best put forward professionalism and heart, and it's one recognition that simply underlines how lucky both Rockford and Chicago were to have him on their teams.
