The Colorado Avalanche poached defenseman John Ludvig off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Avs are only four days away from their season opener against the Las Vegas Golden Knights. So far, their preseason hasn't been going well, losing their first five games. They will look to bounce back tonight against the Utah HC to end their preseason on the right note.

In breaking news, we learned that the organization decided to add a new player to help the team.

It was announced that the Avalanche claimed the defenseman John Ludvig from the NHL waiver wire.

Ludvig was cut from the Pittsburgh Penguins' training camp but will now report to the Avs instead of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL.

He was sent down in a wave of cuts by the Penguins, alongside Nathan Clurman, Emil Bemstrom, Joona Koppanen, Jonathan Gruden, Samuel Poulin, and Filip Kral.

This is the second time that Ludvig gets claimed on waivers. Last year, he joined the Penguins after being cut by the Florida Panthers.

The 24-year-old defenseman from Czechia was drafted by the Florida Panthers 69th overall in 2019. Since then, he played 33 NHL games with the Penguins and spent three seasons in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch, the Charlotte Checkers, and the Pens.

It'll be interesting to see where he fits on the Avs' roster, with only a few days before the start of the regular season.
