NHL officiating is a very tough job, and on Monday one official found that out in a brutal way, as Josh Manson collided with Mitch Dunning, who was stretchered off after the brutal and completely accidental collision.

Things were going well in a fun clash between the Colorado Avalanche and the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night, but unfortunately, things took a major turn for the worst.

During the matchup, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson accidentally collided with the official Mitch Dunning, causing him to be carted off the ice in a terrifying scene for all those involved and in attendance.

The collision with Manson was a total accident, and it's clear that the player was shaken up, as he made sure to be by Mitch Dunning's side as he was being stretchered away.

According to reports, Dunning has suffered a major back injury and is now being taken to a nearby hospital, so hopefully, he can be taken care of by the best possible people.

To play on from this point must be very difficult for Manson as well as the rest of the team, as this type of thing can happen during any game involving any players and officials, but they all must be feeling dreadful that it happened on this night.

Dunning has been a full-time official in the NHL since 2022, and is one of the most respected names in the sport, with the game now continuing with just one official and two linespeople, who must be very rattled in their own right.

The incident occurred early in the first period, with the game being stopped for several minutes, and now that it's restarted, we take this time too to wish Dunning and his family well, and hopefully, he can make a full recovery in the hospital.
