Valeri Nichushkin has caused a ton of controversy and problems for the Colorado Avalanche over the last year. He was first suspended during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Seattle Kraken after an incident with a woman at his hotel.
Then after being reinstated he was once again suspended in May due to a violation of the NHL's Player Assistance Program.
Since this announcement things have been quiet regarding the situation. Some fans and media around the league thought that Valeri Nichushkin might forego playing in the NHL and return back to his home country of Russia and play in the KHL.
Today with the NHL season approaching President of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche Joe Sakic addressed the future of Valeri Nichushkin in the NHL.
In a new interview with Altitude Sports Radio Joe Sakic was asked about Valeri Nichushkin. When asked about the future Joe Sakic confirmed they expect Valeri Nichushkin to return to the team and play around mid-November.
This will likely be Valeri Nichushkin's final opportunity to continue his NHL career based on his repeated off-ice issues. When he stays out of trouble Valeri Nichushkin is one of the best power forwards in hockey.
During the 2023-24 season before his suspension, Valeri Nichushkin was able to tally 53 points in 54 total games. If he gets back to this type of production and stays out of trouble he will likely be welcomed back with open arms.
However, if Valeri Nichushkin has troubles once again and ends up suspended it could spell the end of his NHL career and almost certainly at least the end of his tenure with the Avalanche. As more information is provided on Valeri Nichushkin's return we will pass it along to you.
