A new report this afternoon from NHL insider Chris Johnston has confirmed that Jack Campbell has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. According to the reports, Jack Campbell will now be away from the team for an indefinite period of time.
Before heading to Edmonton Jack Campbell was a successful starting goalie with the Maple Leafs de Toronto
Toronto Maple Leafs. With the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jack Campbell had 2 seasons as the starting goalie for a playoff team. In his best season, he put up a 2.64 goals-against average and a 0.914 save percentage. His play with the Toronto Maple Leafs led to a big contract with the Edmonton Oilers.
However, his struggles with the Oilers seem to have derailed his career a bit. In 2 seasons with the Oilers, Jack Campbell had a save percentage below 0.890 in both seasons. During the 2023-24 season, Jack Campell started the season with the Oilers but after 5 appearances where he struggled, he was put on waivers to head to the AHL. In the AHL, Jack Campbell played well but not to the level of a goalie pushing for an NHL spot.
This offseason Jack Campbell signed with the Detroit Red Wings hoping for a fresh start. Despite spending training camp with the Red Wings Jack Campbell will now step away to focus on his health.
Hopefully, Jack Campbell will get the help that he needs and get his NHL career back on track. As Jack Campbell encounters this new challenge away from hockey we wish him all the best.
