Matthew Tkachuk Hits The Ice Head Over Heels After Crushing Hit From Red Wings Defenseman
Older fans of hockey have long complained about how soft the game has become. However, there is still room for massive hits and physical plays in the NHL. Today, Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman showed what that looks like.
Walman Sends Tkachuk Flying With Epic Hip Check
The 6'2" blueliner lined up Tkachuk as the Red Wings moved the puck up the ice in transition. He timed the hit perfectly, sending the Panthers star through the air with a hip check of epic proportions.
Jake Walman sent Matthew Tkachuk FLYING in the 1st period to begin the festivities today in Detroit 😱 Luckily, Tkachuk was not hurt on the play and he quickly got up and skated to the bench.
Walman Becomes Fan Favorite With Detroit Red Wings
Walman has become a fan favorite in Detroit this year by showcasing a little personality on the ice. He has developed into a legitimate scoring threat as he has 11 tallies on the season. His go-to celebration move has become the griddy, which has endeared him to fans across the NHL.
The Red Wings even honored the 28-year-old with a bobblehead with moveable arms so he can do the griddy too.
Walman has 24 goals and 50 points in 193 career NHL games. 11 of those goals and 20 points have come this season as he has added more offense to his game. He has already hit a new career high in points, on pace to blow away his previous high of 18 by a wide margin.
As seen on Jake Walman sends Matthew Tkachuk sailing through the air.
