Earlier today, TSN radio host Sash Sharnaz reported that Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin requested a trade.
He claimed that he had spoken with Johnston on the matter, sharing the news ahead of the insider.
However, it has since been revealed that this report is false and completely fabricated.
In fact, Johnston himself responded to the post by sharing it and adding his side of the story.
He confirmed that he never spoke with Sash, nor has he reported on any information regarding Larkin requesting a move from Detroit.
He went so far as to call it 'patently, 100% false and fabricated,' a scathing indictment of the original post, that shockingly remains up.
That being said, the wheels do seem to be falling off the bus in Detroit.
The team has lost their last five games, falling to 10-13-4 overall. That puts them in 7th place in the Atlantic Division.
Considering how close the team was to making the playoffs last year, this meteoric collapse is shocking and can only lead to panic within the organization.
Of course, that doesn't mean the team plans on trading away their top players, especially their captain.
Likewise, this does not mean that Larkin is looking to abandon ship.
With Johnston clearing this issue up, it appears that nothing crazy is happening in Detroit.
However, things may get shaken up shortly if the team continues to struggle.
They are already facing a steep uphill battle if they want to make the playoffs this year and every loss makes that path a little tougher.
Hopefully, they will turn things around before they get to the point where they are considering trading a player like Larkin.
