Darnell Nurse of the Edmonton Oilers has entered quite the unusual partnership, as he's joined forces with the Minions in what fans are calling ridiculous.

Well, it appears that Darnell Nurse has teamed up with the Minions in perhaps one of the most unlikely but hilarious partnerships. Since "Minions: The Rise of Gru" dropped, Nurse has been pretty glued to the yellow little troublemakers.

Recently, via social media, Darnell Nurse posted a video of him and his family watching the Minions, which was a moment most found hilariously awkward.

From social media campaigns down to special merchandise and joint appearances, Darnell Nurse and the Minions combined efforts to produce content that resembled the passion of both a hockey fan and an enthusiast of those yellow creatures. This displays the fun side of Nurse while balancing well with the mischievous charm of the Minions.

This is part of a larger trend where athletes and entertainment brands team up to reach a broader audience. Blending sports and pop culture is definitely appealing more and more to younger fans.

Darnell Nurse was a 7th-overall draft pick by the Edmonton Oilers in 2013 and has played all 640 games with the team, scoring 76 goals and adding 191 assists, for 267 points. He has also maintained a phenomenal plus/minus rating of +67. Let's hope Nurse keeps his head focused on the ice and comes into the season feeling refreshed and ready to go.
