Cody Ceci was recently interviewed on the What Chaos Show, where he expressed sadness to be leaving the Oilers and cherishes the memories he has.

The bottom line for Cody Ceci, just like it has been since he came into the Oilers fold, is that he wants to win a Stanley Cup with his brothers in the room. He added that it's tough to go away from not getting that ultimate goal. He said it's just the business side of hockey that's part of the game, which is what finally led to the trade. Now in San Jose with the Sharks, Ceci is looking forward to the new opportunity but can't help but look back on his time in Edmonton with slight wistfulness, due to the relationships built and the playoff runs endured.

It's always different going from a top contender like the Oilers, with aspirations of winning a championship, to a Sharks team that is expected to struggle this season. To his credit, Cody Ceci was professional in addressing the shift. For most, though, it would seem leaving Edmonton meant saying goodbye to his best shot at winning a Cup during his career.

Having now played 786 games in the NHL, Cody Ceci's travels have taken him through stints with the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Oilers. In the last three seasons in Edmonton, he'd earned consistent top-four minutes, being a valuable if not always perfect player who sometimes took the odd defensive zone shift off. For the Oilers, it would've been a necessary evil for the improvement of the blueline this season, although that immediate upgrade didn't exactly materialize. In return, they get Ty Emberson, a young promising D-man, but whether he can fill in Ceci's role on a contending team is yet to be seen.

As Cody Ceci starts this chapter of his career with the Sharks, there's at least the possibility he could play well enough to get dealt to a playoff-bound team ahead of the trade deadline. The Oilers, meanwhile, will be pulling for him to have success as he heads into this next stage of his career. And who knows, maybe the Oilers re-acquire him at the trade deadline from the Sharks!
