The Edmonton Oilers made the controversial choice to hire Stan Bowman as their new GM, and now the comments of a franchise legend have resurfaced.

Three years ago, Stan Bowman was banned for the NHL for his role in the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks scandal, but almost immediately after being reinstated, the Oilers made him their General Manager. Unsurprisingly, the fans didn't react well to the news, and in their reactions, old comments from franchise legend Wayne Gretzky have surfaced;

«I'm sitting here thinking, as a parent My son is 18 years old and he's going to maybe be drafted by that teamI want to know my 18-yr-old son is going to be protected.»

The comments from Gretzky are as relevant today as they were when he first made them, and given that Bowman never really faced any consequences for his actions or lack thereof, it's unclear just how much he's changed. While it would be unlikely to see the Blackhawks scandal repeat itself in Edmonton, the parents and loved ones of players heading to a Stan Bowman led organization must still be a little apprehensive, and with his record as a GM less than stellar, there are many, many reasons why it was a poor move.
