Canadiens call up controversial top defenseman prospect
The Montreal Canadiens have just one game left in their season, a home contest against the Detroit Red Wings. It appears as though defenseman Logan Mailloux will be making his NHL debut though as the team just called him up.
The news was first spotted by fans who noticed the transaction online. However, the team quickly made a post of their own, confirming that they had called up the 21-year-old.

Should he play today, it would be his first career NHL contest. With the way Mailloux has developed, it is safe to say he may play a big role for the Canadiens at some point in the near future.
That being said, Mailloux will still have to earn his spot on the roster next season. The team is likely using this as an opportunity to get him a little experience and taste of what it takes to play at the highest level. The Hockey News writer Jacob Stoller believes he won't make the team out of camp next summer.

I'd be surprised if he made MTL's roster out of camp next fall.
Another year in the AHL may serve to help polish the young defenseman's game while also managing his workload. The team would also have the option of calling him up for spot duty or injury replacement.
