A big trade could be in the works that is in the process of getting finalized as we speak, and journalist Mark Madden as well as The Hockey Writers have revealed details regarding this possibility.
The missing detail is how far away from the finish line the two clubs are in making this deal, or whether it has fallen apart, but one thing's for sure, something is or was definitely brewing. Kris Letang also mentioned this summer that he would be interested in playing in his home province of Quebec for the Montreal Canadiens. The Penguins have missed the playoffs for two straight seasons so GM Kyle Dubas could be looking at making some major changes.
The Montreal Canadiens don't really need veteran defensemen like Kris Letang right now because the team is not in a win now mode, however if a player of his calibre says he's interested in joining your team, it's hard to say no, especially that he could be a huge leader for the younger guys on the Habs squad.
Kris Letang is 37 years old and was able to rack up 51 points in all of his team's 82 games he played in last season. In his career in the league, he's played in 1,087 games and gotten 742 points, as well as the most important stat of them all, three Stanley Cups!
