Trade may be finalized to send Penguins Kris Letang to the Montreal Canadiens
A journalist covering the Pittsburgh Penguins has stated that a trade is in the works with the Montreal Canadiens involving defenseman Kris Letang.
A big trade could be in the works that is in the process of getting finalized as we speak, and journalist Mark Madden as well as The Hockey Writers have revealed details regarding this possibility.
"According to Mark Madden, an NHL insider who works for 105.9 The X and TribLive, the Pittsburgh Penguins have discussed the possibility of trading veteran defenseman Kris Letang to the Montreal Canadiens.
Kristopher Letang, who is entering the third year of his $36.6 million contract, has been a cornerstone of the Penguins' defense." The missing detail is how far away from the finish line the two clubs are in making this deal, or whether it has fallen apart, but one thing's for sure, something is or was definitely brewing. Kris Letang also mentioned this summer that he would be interested in playing in his home province of Quebec for the Montreal Canadiens. The Penguins have missed the playoffs for two straight seasons so GM Kyle Dubas could be looking at making some major changes.
"Letang remains with Pittsburgh for now, but it will be interesting to see if more trade talks with Montreal arise if the Penguins struggle in the 2024-25 season."
The Montreal Canadiens don't really need veteran defensemen like Kris Letang right now because the team is not in a win now mode, however if a player of his calibre says he's interested in joining your team, it's hard to say no, especially that he could be a huge leader for the younger guys on the Habs squad.
Kris Letang is 37 years old and was able to rack up 51 points in all of his team's 82 games he played in last season. In his career in the league, he's played in 1,087 games and gotten 742 points, as well as the most important stat of them all, three Stanley Cups!
