The New York Rangers already have some early injury setbacks from their preseason matchup against the Islanders, as star forward Artemi Panarin is listed day-to-day, and defenseman Ryan Lindgren will be out for a little bit.
According to head coach Peter Laviolette, Lindgren will be out at least a couple of weeks, which likely rules him out for an October 9 season opener. Peter Baugh also confirmed the fate of the two players on X.
The 32-year-old Panarin was knocked out of Tuesday's contest in the third period with a lower-body injury. He enjoyed a stellar season a year ago, making first-team all-star and finishing fifth in Hart Trophy balloting on the strength of 49 goals and 120 points in 82 appearances.
As for Lindgren, the 26-year-old defenseman got into a scrap with Islanders' Scott Mayfield early in the game and did not return afterward. Last season, Lindgren had three goals and 17 points across 76 games. He also signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract this offseason through arbitration.
The Rangers don't start the regular season until October 9 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they'll be counting down to it with a careful eye on their injury report.
