The Ottawa Senators have a crucial off-season ahead of them, but according to a recent report, it hasn't got off to a very good start.

With another disappointing season behind them, it was clear big changes were coming in Ottawa, and they've kick-started their off-season by naming Travis Green as their new Head Coach with a lengthy four-year deal.

This was an odd move for the Senators to make so quickly, especially given the potential candidates out there, and now, a report has emerged that they attempted to cheap out on landing arguably the top available name. According to Elliotte Friedman, talks between Ottawa and Craig Berube went very far, but ultimately, the two parties couldn't come to an agreement, as the Senators weren't willing to pay up to land a Stanley Cup winning coach.

Berube has also been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs job in the likely event that Sheldon Keefe is fired after another disappointing year, but given their lengthy rebuild with no end in sight, it was a no-brainer for Ottawa, so it's safe to say that they've made a big mistake.
