Sidney Crosby was once guaranteed to play his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins but things may not be so certain anymore as he is now no longer expected to extend his contract at the first possible time.

To say things have been declining in Pittsburgh would be an understatement. Last year, they missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 years which also correlated with a change in management.

The Penguins decided to bring in Kyle Dubas and with that came moves such as trading for Erik Karlsson and Reilly Smith. However, things have gone south with the Penguins sitting at 7th in the Metropolitan Division.

Rob Rossi of The Athletic recently reported that it looks like Crosby may not be signing a contract extension in Pittsburgh on July 1st, the first day he is eligible to extend.

«If an extension isn't announced on July 1, it'll only be because Crosby might still be shrugging off another disappointing season by vacationing in Europe.» - Rob Rossi

Rossi later went on to add how the Penguins and Crosby will likely come to a deal worth $10 million per year.

It is now up to Kyle Dubas to ink Crosby to a deal but if he believes it is in the franchise's best interest to trade Crosby and do a rebuild, Dubas may move on from him.
