After dropping to 6-10-3 on the season with no hopes of turning things around, the future of this season has been all but confirmed for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The team has already traded Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals, and with the likes of Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor also drawing attention, this appears to be the plan for Pittsburgh moving forward as they look to restock their cupboard full of assets.
This has led to some very interesting questions about the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, with General Manager Kyle Dubas already declaring that 87 is not and will never be available.
However, that same statement wasn't made about Malkin, and although he's not actively being shopped, there have been question marks over whether he could be open to a move despite possessing a no-trade clause.
That has now been put to bed by No. 71 himself, as Malkin has declared that no matter what happens, he doesn't want to play anywhere other than Pittsburgh.
Things could change in the coming years if he gets sick of losing, but given that he's spent the last two decades with the team, experiencing tremendous success alongside Sidney Crosby, it's easy to see why he remains loyal to the team.
With the likes of Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang available for trade, the belief by many was that Malkin could potentially be open to a move, so thankfully this statement will put an end to any speculation.
In the team's 19 games this season, Malkin has posted 5 goals and 18 points, showing that he's clearly still a great player in the NHL, and for now, it appears he'll end his career, whenever that end may come with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
