Kyle Dubas Reveals His Knowledge Of How Penguins Players Are Feeling After the Guentzel Trade
Kyle Dubas was active at the deadline yesterday, sending away notable forward Jake Guentzel in a move that looks to the future, that not everyone was happy about.
Dubas Reveals he Knows Penguins Players Aren't Happy With the Moves
Anytime you make a move at a deadline that looks to address the future and not this season, it can be disappointing to players on the team. For the Pittsburgh Penguins, it signifies a bit more than that, more like the end of an era for the team and Sidney Crosby.
With Kyle Dubas trading away Jake Guentzel, he noted in comments after that he knew the team wasn't happy with the decision.
«Mike's been here a long time, he's like the players,» Dubas said, «and when you make the decision to remove someone from the group that's hugely popular and contributes in such a great way, nobody's happy about it.
«And I wouldn't want it any other way. I wouldn't want anybody to be happy about those things. That's part of this job, and it's part of their job to be upset when those things happen.»
Dubas Will Have to Impress Moving Forward to Earn Back the Love From Pittsburgh
Dubas has a huge challenge ahead of him. With Sidney Crosby's career coming to a close, he has the immense difficulty of figuring out how to handle that from a roster perspective, while trying to find a way to open up Pittsburgh's chances at winning a cup.
This challenge will be difficult, and he will encounter some moments like yesterday where he isn't everyone's favourite. However, it is a long process and he is just at the beginning of it.
