The San Jose Sharks won the NHL Lottery this past offseason after a full season of suffering. As a result, they were awarded the first overall pick and took forward Macklin Celebrini out of Boston University. The draft hype for Macklin Celebrini coming out of Boston University was incredible. At one point Celebrini was compared to the likes of Crosby and Bedard. The addition of Macklin Celebrini was looked at as a move that could catapult the San Jose Sharks back to being a relevant team in the NHL.
Last night Macklin Celebrini made his debut against the St. Louis Blues. Before even taking the ice in a game Celebrini already racked up a fine from the NHL. In the game, Macklin Celebrini was as good as advertised. Early on in his debut Macklin Celebrini got on the scoresheet by burying a puck past Joel Hofer.
Later in the game, Macklin Celebrini would add an assist to continue his hot start. Unfortunately, his efforts would not be enough as the San Jose Sharks would fall to the St. Louis Blues 5-4. Now less than a day after making his NHL debut a worrying report from San Jose Sharks head coach David Warsofsky seems to indicate Macklin Celebrini is hurt.
In a new interview following up yesterday's game San Jose Sharks head coach David Warsofsky spoke to the media. Shockingly during the press conference David Warsofsky confirmed that Macklin Celebrini was being evaluated for a lower-body injury putting his status for tomorrow night's game in doubt.
The lack of optimism and clarity provided by David Warsofsky has led fans to believe that Macklin Celebrini will indeed be forced to miss game 2 of his NHL career. As of now, it seems the Sharks and Macklin Celebrini have more testing and evaluation to get done.
Once the San Jose Sharks provide an update on Macklin Celebrini and his injury we will pass the information along to you.
