For most of the 2021-22 season, Shane Wright looked like a lock for the first overall pick in the 2022 draft but as the season progressed, there was more of a question on if Wright would be the guy hearing his name first in Montreal. Surprisingly on draft day, Wright fell to fourth overall where the Seattle Kraken rushed up to the podium to select the top prospect.
Since then, Wright has bounced around three leagues, the OHL, AHL, and NHL. This past year he spent mainly in the AHL where he scored 47 points in 59 games and performed well when he was called up to the NHL.
Some teams believe Wright may be due for a change of scenery and have called Kraken GM Ron Francis on his availability but have not gotten anywhere. David Pagnotta reports the following:
Wright still has loads of potential and for him to be moved in any trade would likely require the team trading for him to give up a star player for Wright. The youngster will look to fight for a roster spot out of camp next year for the Seattle Kraken and hopefully prove himself at the NHL level.
