Today NHL referees are once again under fire for a controversial call made in a game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets.

Referees often have a thankless job in sports when they do well no one notices and when they screw up everyone notices. Today in a game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets an extremely controversial call was made.

During the game, the Tampa Bay Lightning had the puck in the offensive zone. The puck got shuffled toward the front of the net and eventually, a scrum ensued. Lightning forward Conor Geekie ends up in the crease and pushes the puck and the pad of Connor Hellebuyck into the net.

Originally the play was not called a goal but was challenged by the Tampa Bay Lightning. After a review it was determined to be a good goal and that there was no goaltender interference on the goal from Conor Geekie.

Despite the frustrating moment for the Winnipeg Jets as they have many times this season already they bounced back and took control of the game. Three unanswered goals from the Winnipeg Jets in the third period led to a huge win for the Jets.

Despite the outcome going the Winnipeg Jets' way this is still a controversial call from the referees and continues to cloud the goaltender interference rules. Either way, the Winnipeg Jets continue their winning ways while the Tampa Bay Lightning stumble a little bit despite their great start to the year otherwise.

It will be interesting to see if the NHL comes out and makes a statement about this controversial call and why exactly it was overturned when it seems to be inconclusive at best.
