New report details Steven Stamkos' future in Tampa Bay and free agency
The Tampa Bay Lightning have failed to extend their veteran star Steven Stamkos, and now there is a new report detailing how the pending free agency is going.
It was a pretty big surprise when training camp came around this season and Steven Stamkos remained unsigned by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stamkos had noted that he wanted a deal to be done this offseason, however, nothing materialized, and the heat of the season has put conversations on pause.
Now, a new report by the Athletic has revealed that there is uncertainty around Steven Stamko's future in Tampa Bay, a shocking turn of events from what was expected over the summer.
There remains a level of uncertainty around Steven Stamkos' future in Tampa Bay, according to The Athletic.
Stamkos will he an unrestricted free agent following this season, but contract talks stalled last summer.
Stamkos has been incredible for the Tampa Bay Lightning, leading them to back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. This alone should be enough to sign Stamkos to a deal to keep him in Tampa through his potential retirement.
Stamkos has also proved this year that he is worth his weight, as he has 39 goals and 38 assists through 75 games this year. The production is incredible, given that Stamkos is 34 years old.
We will see how this plays out in the offseason.
