Today the Tampa Bay Lightning made a surprising decision just a couple of days after their elimination from the playoffs. The team has decided to extend head coach Jon Cooper's contract.

A new report from NHL insider David Pagnotta has confirmed that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jon Cooper are in agreement on a contract extension through 2025-26.

I'm told #GoBolts HC Jon Cooper had signed an extension and is under contract through the 2025-26 season.

The report from David Pagnotta comes on the heels of a comment from GM Julien BriseBois who told another reporter that Jon Cooper had term on his contract and didn't require an extension.

The extension comes just days after Jon Cooper was surrounded in controversy for comments he made following the team's loss to the Florida Panthers.

"We might has well put skirts on them then... I think we're letting the goalies off the hook."

Jon Cooper went full South Park Sarcastaball. The goalie interference calls are getting out of hand.

Jon Cooper's comments were met with universal outrage by hockey fans and offensive by many. Since the incident Jon Cooper has not apologized or commented in any fashion. With the news of his extension fan outrage will likely pick back up again.
