The NHL has often time been accused of bias towards Toronto by other fans, but in the latest drama, it's become clear that the league have done the exact opposite towards the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Media coverage leads to a harsh suspension for the Toronto Maple Leafs
The entire NHL world has been talking about the Morgan Rielly situation for the past few days, and even after the suspension was announced by the NHL, the drama didn't stop.
First there was the issue with the NHL leaking the story ahead of time so Toronto found out about it on social media, and now, there's been a revelation of bias against the Maple Leafs.
Dregger on Overdrive just said again that he has talked to people around the league, and there are some that think Rielly was in line for a 2 or 3 game suspension. But the amount of coverage it got made the league up it to 5 so as to not be perceived as soft on Toronto.... 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Rielly faces harsh five-game suspension after rough cross-check
While Morgan Rielly certainly deserved a suspension for a dirty cross-check to the face of Ridley Greig, it was reportedly set to be 2 or 3 games until the league didn't want to appear biased for Toronto after the media coverage the story got, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
Whether or not this story is true, we may never know, but it comes as no shock that Rielly was given five-games with all of the coverage the story got for several days, but now Leafs fans will have their eyes on any and all issues that take place around the league to watch for the NHL's consistency on such issues.
