It's safe to say that Ilya Samsonov still had some unfinished business over his time in Toronto, and he vented his thoughts after last night's win with Vegas.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue their push to firm up their goaltending situation, a name from their recent past is making some noise elsewhere. Ilya Samsonov, once in goal for the Leafs, is enjoying life and seems successful in his new city.

Now a Vegas Golden Knight, Samsonov just won his first game as a member of his new club by a decent score of 3-1 over the Anaheim Ducks. In post-game interviews following the win, the Russian netminder showed excitement about being in Vegas, where he complimented teammates, the culture of the team, and its committed fanbase. All in all, some of his comments came off as subtle digs at his old team, mainly when he stated that he enjoys the fan experience in Vegas much more than in Toronto.

Well, as was probably expected, Samsonov's comments indeed set the Twitter/X world ablaze. Several Leafs fans bristled at what they felt was a critique, while Vegas fans came to their new goaltender's defense. In no time, social media had become a battleground, with insults flying every which way. What had been an innocuous post-game interview had morphed into another chapter of the ongoing fanbase rivalry.

While the online debates raged on, it was crystal clear: Samsonov's career arc has taken a turn for the better out in Vegas. Going from a guy with an uncertain future in Toronto, he seems rejuvenated, playing with much confidence and taking pleasure with a team that wants him. It goes to show at times all it takes is a change of scenery for that player to go out and put things together.

The resurgence of Ilya Samsonov should be celebrated even by Leafs fans. Perhaps instead of perceived slights, it is time to move on and recognize that a former Leaf has found success elsewhere. It was a good move for Samsonov, and both sides fans would do well to acknowledge that and move on.
