Last night, there was a lot of emotion in Colorado as the Islanders were in town, marking the return of Patrick Roy to the Avalanche's arena. Roy was named head coach of the Isles at the end of last season, and his team didn't face the Avs until yesterday.
Roy won two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche as a player. He also spent three seasons behind the bench from 2013 to 2016. Even though the years have passed, the former goaltender is still appreciated by the Avs fanbase.
During the game, a massive scrum occurred when Alex Romanov tried to hit Nathan MacKinnon, who evaded him and pushed the Isles defenseman on the boards for the reverse hit.
MacKinnon saw Romanov closing in and knew he had to hit if he didn't want to be sent to the floor by his opponent.
Watch how it went down in the following video:
It couldn't have been a better scenario for Roy, as he saw his team win the game 6-2.
The Avs lost their third straight game of the season, thanks to another bad performance from Avs' goalie Alexandar Georgiev. Since the season started, Georgiev has been pulled out two times by head coach Jared Bednar, and last night, allowed five goals on 32 shots.
Only three games into the new season, it's too early to think about making major changes in Colorado. However, the team will need to work harder to get back on the right track soon before their season reaches a point of no return. Also, they expect big reinforcements to come their way in the coming weeks, as Valeri Nichushkin, who was suspended for six months by the NHL, is set to return to the lineup at some point in November.
