The New Jersey Devils hired Sheldon Keefe to be their new bench boss and in his first press conference, he aired out the dirty laundry he had with the Maple Leafs.

After five years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sheldon Keefe was let go in favor of a new direction with former Stanley Cup champion Craig Berube.

Today Keefe had his first press conference with the New Jersey Devils and he has shared a lot about his experience with the Maple Leafs.

Sheldon Keefe, upon formally being introduced as #NJDevils head coach, says he found quick closure after being fired by the #leafs.

"This is a fresh start and a great opportunity ahead. It's completely unique and different."

Keefe also went on to describe what it was like the day he was fired by the Maple Leafs.

Sheldon Keefe had a restless sleep the night before the #leafs fired him and that's when he came up with the idea for his goodbye video. It was shot in his "happy place" near home.

"I had a pretty good sense that that day I was going to wake up and be called in for a meeting."

Keefe then shared how he felt he is a much better coach than he was when he first got into the NHL despite the lack of playoff success for the Maple Leafs.

Sheldon Keefe says he's learned from the playoff disappointments in Toronto: "After five years and six playoff rounds, I'm a far better coach than when I arrived in the NHL."

Keefe will now have less spotlight in New Jersey and arguably a better team with young stars like Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Simon Nemec, and Luke Hughes.
