Projected first overall pick officially takes shots at the Toronto Maple Leafs

Today the latest player to get exceptional status in junior hockey Landon DuPont spoke to the media for the first time and took a shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs during his remarks.

Heading into yet another hockey season, new faces are becoming household names both in the National Hockey League and in NHL Draft circles. This season one of those new faces is Landon DuPont the first overall pick from the WHL Draft and the latest exceptional status player taken into the league.

After his debut in the WHL Landon DuPont spoke to the media. He was asked who he believes will be the team to take home the Stanley Cup this season. He used the opportunity to take a shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

When being asked about the Stanley Cup Landon DuPont first mentioned the Toronto Maple Leafs. He joked that the Maple Leafs were already out of the running for the Stanley Cup. Immediately after the joke he revealed that he and his family are Toronto Maple Leaf fans. He then revealed he might root for the Vancouver Canucks now that he is playing out West.

These comments show personality from Landon DuPont and have echoed comments that many Maple Leafs fans have said to one another over the years. Despite being perennial playoff contenders the faith in the Maple Leafs to actually get the job done is almost nonexistent from fans.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have plenty of fans to prove wrong heading into the upcoming season under new head coach Craig Berube and now Landon DuPont can be added to that list. As the season gets underway, it will be fun to see if the young star's predictions come true.
