Jonathan Marchessault shares an awful and heartbreaking announcement
The Nashville Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault shared an awful and heartbreaking announcement during his junior jersey retirement ceremony last night.
Marchessault was back in Quebec City, where he played his junior years with the Quebec Remparts between 2007 and 2011. What was supposed to be a night of joy took a dark turn.
He announced that his mother had passed away a day before the ceremony.
Here's what he said before the emotional ceremony:
"It's difficult. I learned that I lost my mother yesterday morning. It's been 24 hours, so it's very difficult not only for me but for my entire family.
Anyone who knew my mother knows that a moment like the one today would have been one of the best moments of her entire life.
That's what is so sad. She would have really loved to see it, to see her name raised to the top of the Videotron Centre . She was so good to me, she was incredible. It's horrible. It's part of life. She would have wanted us to be here as a family, so that's why we went through with it." It is an awful tragedy to lose your mother, and it came at a horrible time for the player-not only for the event, but just a few days before the start of his first season with the Nashville Predators.
In what promises to be an emotional National Hockey League campaign for Marchessault, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences to him and his family.
