Mitch Marner has been a constant in trade rumours all off-season long, but now one former teammate Ryan O'Reilly has confirmed a shock rumour.

For months now, the whispers about a potential Mitch Marner deal have not subsided, with the likes of Utah, Nashville and many others all linked to the star forward. Perhaps the most surprising of all was the link to the Predators, and while many didn't believe it, former Toronto Maple Leaf Ryan O'Reilly has seemingly confirmed the shock report.

«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, ex-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said."

In the report from insider Nick Kypreos, he confirms that O'Reilly went straight to GM Barry Trotz to petition him to make the move, but after landing the star trio of Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, it's highly unlikely to still be in their minds.

With Craig Berube expressing his interest in coaching Mitch Marner, there's a chance that he's no longer available for trade, but with his pending free agency, the team would be wise to listen to offers. With Marner expected to explore free agency in 2025, there's a chance that O'Reilly and Marner could be teammates again, but for now, any chatter of a move to send No. 16 to Nashville should be considered dead.
