Spreading lies to the media: Matthew Knies gets called out by Auston Matthews in the funniest way possible
The young Toronto Maple Leafs player, Matthew Knies, got called out by captain Auston Matthews in the funniest way possible for spreading 'lies' to the media.
Answering questions from reporters is often an overlooked part of a hockey player's job. It's not as easy as it looks when you're not used to it. Knies, 21, is only in his second NHL season, but he has already impressed a lot of people with his maturity and personality.
We witnessed one of the funniest moments of training camp yesterday when Auston Matthews commented on Matthew Knies saying he "smoked him" in tennis during the summer.
Both Matthews and Knies love to play tennis, and it looks like they played a few games this summer. According to Matthews, Knies didn't beat him, and he jokingly told him not to lie to the media.
Here's what he said that provoked general laughter in the media room:
"He's never beaten me in tennis, never. He literally walked into the gym and told me that he said that. I said, 'I can't believe you would lie to the media like that, that's crazy'"
We can't know for sure what happened on the court between the two teammates this summer, but someone seems to be lying.
Considering that they could play on the same line this season, it's great to know that they spent time together this summer and to see their chemistry.
The Leafs' first pre-season game is set to go down tomorrow, as they'll host the Ottawa Senators at the Scotiabank Arena. We're eager to see Matthews and Knies play together.
