There have been some big time deals handed out this off-season, but now there may be the most surprising of all, as the Utah Hockey Club have now announced their first blockbuster extension. The recipient of this deal is 21-year old Dylan Guenther, who was the No. 9 overall pick of the Arizona Coyotes back in the 2019 NHL Draft, and now, after just 78 games at the NHL level, he's landed a huge deal.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the deal is for eight-years, and carries a cap hit just over $7 million per season, cementing Guenther as a key part of the future in Salt Lake City. Alongside Josh Doan, Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley among others, they now have one of the most talented cores in the NHL, and if they can all improve and develop like they are expected too, this could be a dark horse playoff team in 2024/25.
For Guenther, he has shown incredible talent in those 78 games, with 24 goals and 50 points in that time, but now playing on a line with Logan Cooley and Lawson Crouse, he could finally break out, so keep a close eye on the NHL's newest team this season and their crop of rising stars.
