Today frustrating and scary news has come out of Winnipeg as Jets defenseman Ville Heinola has a severe infection in his ankle according to new reports.
In a new interview with Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel updates about several injuries were given. According to Jets reporter Mike McIntyre, Scott Arniel revealed that Ville Heinola is dealing with a severe infection in his ankle after having offseason surgery.
As of now there will not be a timeline on a potential return for Ville Heinola. Further comments from Scott Arniel do confirm the absence will be long term though.
Before being injured Ville Heinola was expected to get his first long term look on the NHL roster. Last season Ville Heinola played 41 AHL games and had 27 points with the Manitoba Moose. Reports suggested he was going to step into an offensive role on the Winnipeg Jets blue line likely next to NHL veteran Colin Miller.
Now the Winnipeg Jets will have to find a new way foward with new pairings for the upcoming season. We wish Ville Heinola all the best as he continues his recovery and hope to see him back on the ice soon.
