Rick Nash is a legend in Columbus, having played the bulk of his 15-season NHL career in Ohio's capital city, including nine seasons with the Blue Jackets, four as team captain.
After retirement, Nash returned to the Blue Jackets just one year afterward, becoming an Assistant to the General Manager in his role. He remained an assistant for two years before being moved up to Director of Player Development. Now, he's landed yet another promotion.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have named Nash to the additional role of the team's Director of Hockey Operations, effective immediately, the team announced Friday. In this expanded role, Nash will work in all areas of hockey operations for the club while continuing to oversee player development and progression.
In addition to his role with the Blue Jackets, he's been moonlighting for Hockey Canada, serving as General Manager of Canada's team during the 2024 IIHF World Hockey Championship in May.
With his climbing list of responsibilities, it would seem like only a matter of time until Nash takes over as General Manager, a role he has stated he is interested in for the future, whether it be with the Blue Jackets or another NHL franchise.
