Patrik Laine was a massive acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens, and now he's already showing them why he was acquired ahead of the new season.
The Montreal Canadiens took a risk when they traded for Patrik Laine, but given the production he's had on the ice in his past, picking up the 26-year old for such a cheap price was ultimately a no-brainer. Now, he's reportedly impressing at training camp already, with a video circulating of his power as he dislodged the helmet of goaltender Hunter Jones on a breakaway.
It's safe to say that Laine would have much preferred to tuck that one away on the breakaway for a goal, but showing off his power certainly isn't a bad thing this early in camp as he looks to impress his teammates and get acclimated. While most expected Laine to play alongside Cole Caufield, he has instead played alongside Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, and is reportedly impressing in a big way after a slow first day.
"The Laine-Newhook-Dach line is more comfortable than yesterday. Longer offensive zone sequences. The three guys are finding each other better. Dach, in particular, seems in great shape. He moves well. Laine is agile and very hard to stop once he gets going, but sometimes tries to do too much and loses the puck avoiding some simple plays. Newhook is the least visible of the three."

Ultimately, acquiring Laine could be one of the best moves Kent Hughes makes as GM of the Montreal Canadiens, and if he can translate the power and speed he showed in the above video when the season begins, we could be in for a very fun Canadiens team.
